Design thinking – what is it and how shall drive it?
Design thinking is a formal method for practical, creative resolution of problems and creation of solutions, with the intent of an improved future result. It has been one of the hot topics the last couple of years, at least in the US and especially among service companies.
What is the role of design thinking in product companies? Is it an alternative to current development processes or shall it even be companywide initiative? If the goal is to solve customer problems, what is the relationship between Desing Thinking and Product Management.
Welcome to learn what design thinking is and to discuss who shall drive the initiatives!

Integrations – A crucial part of any SaaS service (technical and marketing point of view)
Your product isn’t used in a vacuum. The old idea of using a monolithic tool for everything has given way to one where a whole set of different tools and services are used, each for a specific, narrow task. Even though what these services do can differ greatly, from a user’s point of view, they are tightly interrelated. There’s a rising need to share data between the services. Luckily, with the growing trend of the adoption of cloud services, these tools can now talk to each other. An API is starting to become one of the most important features of a product – not just from a product development point of view, but from a marketing point of view as well.
Let’s discuss the importance of an API, extendability and integrations. I will give examples from Flowdock, where our API has been used by users and other SaaS services alike to extend and improve our product. We’ll also discuss co-marketing benefits.

Ville is currently working on marketing and development at Flowdock. Ville’s background includes software development, design and marketing, both at product companies and as a consultant.

Product management lessons learned from working in distributed teams.
Product management sits at the interface of customers, end-users,
design, development, operations and strategy so good communication
skills are a must for any PM. Often PMs rely on informal methods of
communication, but what if that wasn’t an option.
Distributed software development teams like GitHub, WordPress and
others face the same challenge of coordinating tasks, prioritizing and
collaborating without face to face contact. Can product management
learn something from them to make our lives easier and work more
efficient?
This one hour interactive session will discuss this topic and present
some tools approaches that have proven successful to date. We will
cover four subject areas (tentatively: team structure, methodologies,
tools and processes) using a format of 5+5+5 minutes. This will
involve a 5 minute presentation, followed by 5 minutes of discussion
in small groups and then a combined, moderated discussion with key
takeaways.

Oleg is the founder of StartHQ, the cloud app control centre. He is also working as a partner at Helsinki Ventures, a writer at the DailyJS blog and the founder of HelsinkiJS and MoscowJS meetups.
